Sunny Fields 6th Annual Lilac Festival

On May 19th and 20th visit Sunny Fields Botanical Park for the 6th Annual Lilac Festival from 10am-5pm each day. This festival is a benefit to keep the park open to the public.  Sunny Fields is the home of Michigan's largest and most diverse lilac collection and also contains many native and ornamental plants from around the world. There will be live music/entertainment, local artisans, craft vendors, children's activities and our star attraction-LILACS! Hike the trails, take photographs and take notes on plants that could be useful for your home landscape and garden. Hope to see you at the park!

Presents: “Lilacs of Sunny Fields”

On Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 at 7:00pm Sunny Fields Botanical Park invites the public to a presentation and slideshow on the “Lilacs of Sunny Fields”. The presentation will be hosted by Executive Director Bill Horman who is also a lifetime member of the International Lilac Society.  Learn how to select, plant and care for lilacs!  There will be a lilac raffle, snacks, refreshments and information on the upcoming Lilac Festival on May 19th & 20th.  If you have an interest in lilacs, plants, nature, photography, or just want something to do on a Tuesday night-then this is the event for you!  This is a free event and will take place at the Capac Historical Society Building 401 E. April 27th-28th     Visit us at the 10th Annual Earth Fair at Goodells County Park

May 19th-20th 2012    6th Annual Lilac Festival where over 300 varieties of Lilacs and collection of crabapples will be in bloom.

Vendors Wanted for 6th Annual Lilac Festival

Sunny Fields Botanical Park is seeking vendors for the Lilac Festival.  Vendors will be given a 10’x10’ space to display their wares.  Cost of space will be $20 per day/$40 for both days of the Festival.  Payment will be due by May 11th, 2012 and will be non refundable.  Local & Michigan products will be given first choice.  Spaces will be located near the Welch Road parking lot. Vendors are recommended to setup between 7:30am-9am each day.  Festival hours are 10am-5pm.  For further information or to reserve your spot contact Paul Camire (Sunny Fields Board Member) @ (810) 395-2720

Public Meeting and presentation of "Wildflowers of Sunny Fields"

Sunny Fields Botanical Park will be hosting a membership/public meeting February 28th, 2012 at 6:30pm in the Capac Historical Society Kempf Building (401 E. Kempf Court, Capac, Michigan 48014). This meeting is open to the public and everyone in the community is urged to attend. Executive Director Bill Horman will narrate his slideshow presentation “Wildflowers of Sunny Fields” and the Board of Directors will report on upcoming events and projects including the 6th Annual Lilac Festival on May 19th & 20th. After questions/discussion from the public there will be a meet & greet with light refreshments served. This will be a great opportunity to learn about Sunny Fields and how we plan to benefit the community and region. Hope to see you there! Sunny Fields is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental stewardship and the education of the public through maintaining the park and keeping its vast collection of rare and native plants accessible to future generations.

Winter Park Day at Sunny Fields

On Saturday, January 28th, Sunny Fields Botanical Park will be having a Winter Park Day from 10am-3pm. The trails will be open for hiking, snowshoeing or viewing wildlife. Our very own Executive Director and creator of Sunny Fields, Bill Horman, will be on hand for a pruning demonstration and will discuss the sights and sounds of the park in winter. Sunny Fields board members will be present to give tours and answer any questions you may have. There is no charge to attend this event and everyone is encouraged to bring their families and friends. Remember that this is an outdoor event, so be sure to dress appropriately. A campfire will be going and hot beverages will be provided to help chase away the chill of winter. There are many plants of winter landscape interest planted around the park. While walking the trails be sure to look for the exfoliating bark of the Seven-Son Flower (Heptacodium miconioides) and peeling bark of the Pekin Lilac tree (Syringa pekinensis). Watch for the thorns of the native Honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos) and view the interesting bark and structure of the Corktree (Phellodendron amurense).
